Pure perovskite BiFeO3–BaTiO3 ceramics prepared by reaction flash sintering of Bi2O3–Fe2O3–BaTiO3 mixed powders

In this work, the 0.67BiFeO3-0.33BaTiO3 ferroelectric ceramic was prepared by Reaction Flash Sintering (RFS). This preparation technique combines synthesis and sintering in a single experiment. The starting oxides reacted during flash to produce stoichiometric well-sintered solid solution at temperature of 858 °C applying modest field 35 V cm?1. process takes place matter seconds, which allows obtaining pure perovskite structure without secondary phases. X-ray diffraction (XRD) results show mixture rhombohedral pseudocubic phases expected for composition that lies within morphotropic phase boundary (MPB) region, since significant splitting is observed reflections 2? values 39° 56.5°. microstructure exhibit peculiar bimodal grain size distribution determines electrical properties. As compared with previous results, flash-prepared evidences smaller size, as well slightly lower remanent polarization (Pr) coercive (Ec) under similar electric fields. It also demonstrated RFS provides benefits regarding energy consumption.
